It Starts with States

ACTIONS OF THE WEEK

  • Help keep Michigan's state senate blue by supporting Chedrick Greene.
  • Write postcards tonight, Tues, Feb 17, 6–8pm PT.
  • Sign up for virtual State Bridges events on Wed Feb 25 & Wed Mar 11, both 5pm PT.

MICHIGAN SPECIAL ELECTION WILL
DETERMINE CONTROL OF THE STATE SENATE

States Win endorses Chedrick Greene, candidate for the MI State Senate special election for District 35. A firefighter of 26 years and a Marine Corps Reservist, Chedrick is a dedicated community leader.

The outcome of this May 5 special election will determine control of the Michigan Senate. If Republicans manage to flip the seat, the Senate will be evenly split, complicating efforts to pass key legislation. Holding this seat in the special election will preserve the Democratic majority in the chamber and help carry Democratic momentum straight into the midterms.

This special election is just 11 weeks away, and Chedrick is counting on our support to hold this critical seat.  The earlier the better!

TUNE IN TO BUILDING BRIDGES
WED, FEB 25 @ 5 PM PT

States Win supports organizations that engage in year-round, nonpartisan civic participation to equip local communities with the tools and knowledge to advocate for themselves. We prioritize organizations that:

  • Work in states with current or historical voter suppression
  • Are led by people of color, women and/or young people

Join these virtual events to meet the leaders of the eight grassroots organizations the State Bridges program is partnering with this year:

  • Feb 25 - North Carolina & Tennessee
  • Mar 11 - Alaska & Georgia

Focus on North Carolina

FAST FACTS:

Current Control: Divided government
Gubernatorial Election: 2028

Carolina Federation Fund is a multiracial, working-class organizing project that builds civic power through engaging new participants, investing in grassroots leadership, and integrating culture.

Their member-led chapters collaborate on statewide issue campaigns, local elections, and long-term democratic participation. Read about them here.

We Are Down Home  is a rural, community-based organization that engages working-class people around shared priorities through long-term relationship-building, civic education, and leadership development.

They support local teams focused on issues such as education, housing, disaster recovery, and social welfare programs. Read about them here.

Next week we'll introduce the Alaska organizations that States Win supports.  State Bridges is a 501(c)(3) so donations are tax deductible!
